Buhari arrives London for Anti-corruption summit

Buhari arrived London for an anti-corruption summit which is bringing 60 countries to sign a pact that will make it impossible for fraudulent criminals to use these countries as safe havens. This is even after the British Prime Minister was caught on camera telling the Queen of England that leaders of fantastically corrupt Nigeria and Afghanistan will be attending the summit, at their own expenses added the Speaker of the UK House of Commons.

Fantastically corrupt Nigeria and Afghanistan expected at Anti-corruption summit- British PM

The British Prime Minister, David Cameron was caught on camera telling the Queen of England that the leaders of fantastically corrupt Nigeria and Afghanistan will be attending the anti-corruption summit even though the Archbishop of Canterbury chipped in to say "this new president is not corrupt". Cameron went on to say that both countries are possibly  those most corrupt countries in the world.

It is ironic that David Cameron will be saying this to the Queen when Britain is the greatest beneficiary of the proceeds of corruption in that most of the stolen funds from Nigeria find their way into the UK economy through investment in the UK real estate market, UK university education for children of corrupt officials, UK banks etc. In fact, the UK and some of UK oversea territories provide safe haven for investments made from
proceeds of corruption.

In as much as Nigeria can be said to be corrupt, the UK is a partner and beneficiary of the corrupt practices of Nigerian officials.

Buhari has at least £1m in the Bank - Daily Mail

The English Daily has laid into the President, Muhamadu Buhari saying that he has at least £1m in the Bank, 5 houses and 2 plots of land.

The Foreign Newspaper also reported that Britain is set to give Nigeria £250m in aid this year.

In their words "The presense of Nigeria's president at David Camern's anti-corruption summit this week may surprise many in his nation - which receives vast amount of UK aid.

Self proclaimed 'People's President' Muhammadu Buhari began a war on corruption after taking power last year, but critics allege it is a political witch-hunt.

"The Government is giving nearly £250million in the coming year to oil-rich Nigeria, whose president sends his daughter to a £26,000-a-year English school"

They reported that PDP sympathisers had in April discovered a ticket stub confirming that Buhari's daughter, Hanan, had flown first class from London to Nigeria even after the President had expressly stated that no government official was allowed to do so with government funds.

The Daily Mail also talked about the vast amounts in which government officials earn in Nigeria stating "Nigeria has the highest-paid government officials in the world but is one of the largest beneficiary of UK foreign aid."

They concluded that the Nigerian Embassy have so far not commented on any of the allegations.

President Buhari has been credited with saying that he sends his children overseas for their education because he can afford it and the daily wasn't clear as to whether the money spent by Buhari or his family was government fund or personal cash.

Still on Police recklessness

This Police vehicle fell into a gutter in a Nigerian city after the officers chased a commercial motorcycle operator for.
This Police vehicle flipped onto it's back after rolling away from where it was parked with no one inside of it. Obviously, the handbrake either was not put on correctly or was broken. The car flipped over following collision with a curb and a telegraph pole at Carlton Road, Barnsley.

No land for Grazing Reserve in the South East says Gov Ikpeazu

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Friday, May 6, 2016, said "we don't need grazing reserves in the South East, because we don't have land space for it. There are enough land in the North, so lets have reserve there".

The governor stressed that any plan to create a grazing reserve for the Fulani herdsmen will be frustrated in the entire South East because there is no sufficient land space in the zone for such projects.

Ikpeazu stated this when he appeared on the Magic 102.9 FM flagship programme "People and Politics".

No land for Grazing Reserves in Benue says Gov Ortom

He made this known while receiving members of the House of Representative Committee on Security and Intelligence at the Benue People's House  on Thursday. The governor called for the establishment of ranches for Fulani herdsmen and their cattle to reduce the incidence of clashes between them and farmers in the Country.

Orton said, "if cattle are kept in one place and feed provided, there would be no problem....the lasting solution and the way forward is not grazing routes nor reserves...there is no land for grazing reserves in Benue. We want to diversify our economy, our people are heeding to the advice to go back to farm".

Woman dies in her sleep through phone earpiece... See why

A woman was allegedly electrocuted (and died) through the earpiece of her phone which  she was listening to before she slept off.
The earpiece was reportedly connected to her mobile phone device. But the report did not state if the phone was connected to an electric source for charging, however, it is suspected to be a case of power surge from a charging device.
Where the incident occurred was not mentioned in the report.
Lesson to learn is never put on earpiece while charging your mobile phone or while your device is connected to any power point.

View on Nigeria's feeding bottle federalism by Senator Ike Ekweremadu

" Feeding Bottle Federalism "
"...the current arrangement results in underdevelopment, inequity, bad blood, corruption, maladministration, incompetence, ineptitude and indolence. Many things have gone wrong with our brand of federalism.
“I am a staunch disciple of self-determination. However, at the risk of sounding contradictory, we must be frank enough to admit that the number of states we have today, or plan to create, is simply not sustainable.
“They have put so much pressure on the scarce resources because the states, as we know them today, are not platforms for wealth creation, but for wealth sharing. The more the number of states and local government areas a people can boast of, the greater the chunk of the ‘national cake’ they take home every month.
“This act of robbing Peter to pay Paul, which I term feeding bottle federalism, is at the heart of poor governance, underdevelopment, indolence, and ineptitude in the Nigerian federation. It is also the reason financial trepidation grips the land each time there is a hiccup in the flow of free money, usually occasioned in the crash in oil price."
- Senator Ike Ekweremmadu.

Ethopian activist charged for terrorism over Facebook post

An Ethopian man, Yonathan Tesfaye, has been charged to court for terrorism over comment he posted on facebook. He was charged on Wednesday, by an Ethopian court for inciting violence and other terror related offences, citing Facebook post as evidence. If convicted, he could face a death sentence.

Yonathan Tesfaye, a former spokesman for opposition Blue Party, was detained by Ethopian security forces in December in connection with speaking against a possible land grab in Oromo by the Ethopian government. According to Amnesty regional chief, Methoni Wanyeki, this he said is not terrorism.

The Facebook post was made during the height of the violent protest in the Oromo community over an alleged plan by the government to grab their land. Right groups say the government is using terror laws to crack down on opposition.

If we allow this happen in one region, it surely will come to ours. We must speak out against any attempt to gag media (social media inclusive) freedom.

APC unfair to members from PDP says APC official

Timi Frank
Comrade Timi Frank, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has accused the leadership of his party for treating unfairly, members who moved from the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) into APC.

Comrade Frank, in an interview in Abuja over the weekend, claimed that the reason why he has not been given the mandate to speak on behalf of the party in acting capacity as the Deputy National Public Secretary, since the National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed is now a Federal Minister, is because he (Timi Frank) joined the party from PDP.

Frank also attributed the Senate president's ordeal to the fact that Bukola Saraki came from PDP to join APC, which he said was the reason why the National Chairman of APC made that statement about the party not minding if PDP takes over the Senate president position.

He called for a true reconciliation committee that will ensure a united party.

Gabon First Lady says Education should create leaders who love the environment

Gabon First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba is of the opinion that education should create leaders who love the environment. She posits that in the last 50 years, the educational systems in most sub-Saharan countries have been a mix of hybrid curricula copied on a Eurocentric approach not adapted to the realities of indigenous pupils, their strength and their weaknesses. So most systems used one-size fit all approach. Neither the students environment nor their origin were taken into account. she said she believes that the one-size fits all model is antiquated and that to create tomorrow"s active citizens, the entire philosophy of the educational system should be aligned to the future vision of a country.

Gabon, she said has embarked on a strategy, that of becoming an emerging-diversified economy by 2025. Their growth, she said, will be based on sustainable forestry, agriculture, plus higher value mining and extraction industries. This, she thinks requires a new kind of education that will create a generation that has the skills to lead Gabon.

She said she founded  Ecole Ruban Vert, an institution whose education was based on sustainability, in line with the central vision of the government's vision for the future of Gabon  which is sustainable development and building a green Gabon.

Finally, she said her hope for Ecole Ruban Vert can inspire other nations to adopt similar approaches and create a generation of sustainably minded leaders. According got her, for too long, education in Africa has been viewed as needing to 'catch-up' with the West, but through projects like Ecole Ruban Vert, Africans can show how Africa can lead as well.

Isreali man takes God to court, seeks restraining order against God

"God the Father" by Chima Da Conegliano
An Israeli man has petitioned for a restraining order against God, claiming the almighty has been particularly unkind to him over the years and that the police are unable to do anything.

The man, named by Isreali site NRG as David Shoshan, represented himself at a court hearing in Haifa, a port city in the north of Israel. The report noted that God was not present to defend himself.

The court heard God had been particularly unkind to Mr Shoshan, treating him "harshly and not nicely", though no specific details were giving about what exactly had happened to make him feel this way.

Mr Shoshan claimed he made several attempts to contact police to report God's alleged crimes, and that patrol cars had been sent to his house on 10 occasions.

However, the measure was ineffective against the deity and police advised him to take out a restraining order.

The request for a restraining order was denied by the presiding judge Ahsan Canaan, who said the request was "delusional" and that the petitioner required help from sources outside of the court.

God could not be contracted for comment.

Blogger facing prosecution for misleading information

An Australian Blogger who claimed to have cured cancer with healthy food and  lifestyle changes is facing legal action for misleading and deceptive conduct.

Belle Gibson launched an app and published a book off the back  of her false claim that she had cured her cancer with a gluten and sugar-free diet and alternative therapies, as opposed to conventional medicine, inspiring thousands of people around the world . She also claimed she had cancer of the blood, spleen, uterus and liver.

But Gibson, a mother of one, later admitted her claims about having terminal cancer were untrue, and it became apparent that funds from sales that she had pledged to donate to charity had allegedly not been distributed.

The Consumer Affairs Victoria Watchdog is now looking to prosecute Gibson for allegedly breaking consumer laws. The watchdog said in a statement : "The alleged contraventions relate to false claims by Ms Gibson and her company concerning her diagnosis with terminal brain cancer , her rejection of conventional cancer treatment in favour of natural remedies, and donation of proceeds to various charities".

Simon Cohen, the director of CAV,said their action is an important step in ensuring "consumers receive only verified information and are not deceived, particularly where serious matters of health and medical treatment are concerned"

Consumer Affairs Victoria is a portfolio group within the Depatment of Justice in Victoria State, Australia, which helps you know your rights and responsibilities as a consumer or trader.

Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers warn Tompolo to apologise or face consequence

A new new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, which claimed responsibility for the recent Forcados 48-inch Export Pipeline explosion and Wednesday’s blowing up of the Chevron Valve Platform in Abiteye, both in Delta State, has threatened to bomb all oil installations in the Gbaramatu hometown of former General Officer Commanding, GOC, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, MEND, Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo.
The NDA said it will fulfill its threat any time soon, if Tompolo does not apologise within three days, for asking the affected serving oil companies to go about their normal operations, particularly the repair of the Forcados 48-inch pipeline which is very key to the nation’s economic stability.
A statement by NDA’s  spokesperson, Col. Madoch Agbinibo, published on its website, titled: “RE: I AM NOT PART OF THE NIGER DELTA AVENGERS GROUP – HIGH CHIEF GOVERNMENT EKPEMUPOLO,” read: “It has been brought to our notice of the press release by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) in page 30 of the Vanguard Newspaper of Tuesday 3rd March 2016, where he wrote “it is imperative to state unequivocally that I do not have link with this new militant group…” he went ahead to “appeal to the serving companies to go about their normal operations, particularly the repair of the Forcados 48-inch pipeline which is very key to the economic stability of our country”.
“With due respect Sir (Tompolo). We the Niger Delta Avengers respect you and all former agitators from the region. We admire your love for the region and all you have done.
“The Niger Delta Avengers made it clear that we are not part of the Presidential Amnesty programme because the programme is not genuine. We the Niger Delta Avengers have only decided to pick the struggle up from where you and the former Niger Delta agitators left off; it is only the actors that are new. You are not one of us and you need not border yourself to try to convince anyone.
“As a result, if you can’t join us (Niger Delta Avenger) PLEASE take your hands off our activities because it’s a slap on our face for you to give a nod for repair works to continue on the 48-inch pipeline at Forcados despite a stern warning by us for no one to go near the blast site.
“Come to think of it, when the Maritime University in Okerenkoko was awarded and approved by the immediate past president only for Buhari led Government to cancel it. When he did so, did any of the Northern Elite such as Emirs, former Northern Vice Presidents, and former Northern Presidents say a word or question their fellow northerner for doing such an unspeakable harm to the Niger Deltans? So how can Chief Government Ekpemupolo undermine the Niger Delta Avengers and ask work to go on on the 48-inch pipeline at Forcados.
“We hereby give you a three-day ultimatum to apologize to Niger Delta Avengers in the same national dailies as anything other than that will mean that, we shall bring the war to your doorstep by blowing up all oil installations within your backyard (Gbaramatu Kingdom). Since you have taken side with the Federal government to fight the Niger Delta people.
“We are however advising you to stir clear of our battle with the federal government; it is better you stay mute over our activities if you can’t support us. Please take your eyes off our activities,” the new militant group warned.
