FIFA remembers Rashidi Yekini

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) remembered Rashidi Yekini, on Wednesday.

Rashidi Yekini, a former Nigeria Super Eagles striker died four years ago at the age of 48.

In a statement by FIFA on its website, the body remembered the goal historic goal and celebration of the late striker says "Yekini, who played for several clubs in Spain, Greece, Portugal and Switzerland, could hardly believe he had scored and spontaneously grabbed the net, shaking it and crying in celebration.

"The photo of the Nigerian international captivated the world and even today the former striker remains a respected figure in the global football family".

Yekini entered history books after scoring the first ever Super Eagles goal in a FIFA World cup at the USA 94 World cup tournament. It was a match against Bulgaria which Nigeria won 3-0.

Yekini is so far the highest goal scorer of the Super Eagles with 37 goals. He is the first Nigerian to win the CAF African footballer of the year in 1993 as well as won the African Nations Cup with the Super Eagles in 1994.
