Former President Jonathan rumoured to be on self-exile in Ivory Coast

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan is rumoured to have gone into self exile in Ivory Coast because of reports of an alleged plan by the government to arrest him before May 29 on alleged corruption charges.

Dr Jonathan has been on tour overseas. He is said to have received reliable information from security sources of the plans to arrest him as soon as he steps into the country, hence he decided to seek refuge in Ivory Coast.

In recents weeks, Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crime Commission has been arresting and prosecuting several former public office holders who served under Jonathan. His cousin, Azibola Roberts was also arrested in connection to a US$40 million pipeline surveillance contract. At the time of Mr Roberts interrogation, the lawyers to Roberts asked the courts to stop the EFCC from pressurising Mr Roberts to implicate the former president.

According to Thisday, the EFCC allegedly plans to arrest Jonathan on his return from his oversea trip.
