Police allegedly shot and killed fees protesting University of Port Harcourt student

The Nigerian Police, on Monday (11th April, 2016) afternoon, allegedly shot a student, killing him instantly during a protest by the students over hike in school fees and ' no fees no exam' policy of the institution.

The protest which was peaceful turned violent after the police, called in to maintain law and order, fired live bullets into the crowd, according to some protesting students.

The deceased student has been identified as Peter Ofurum, a final year student of Accounting.  He was until his death, the faculty president of Management Science.

Meanwhile, the University of Port Harcourt Senate has announced the closing down of the University with immediate effect due to the violent demonstration and directed students to vacate the University premises before 6.00pm, Monday, 11th April, 2016.
